Our first “real” DIY project – Automated Garage Door

So excited to share our “victory” of our first real DIY project – installing the motor to automate our roller garage door. Wohooo!!
In our first apartment, we paid around $600 to get this installed, including the motor. But this time, thanks to my “courageous” hubby, we just paid $264 for the Chamberlain motor (from Bunnings) and saved on labour 😉

First "real" DIY project - Automated Roller Garage Door

Buy, borrow the right tools. Ensure you have read and re-read and re-re-re-read the DIY instructions – like my husband did! Having it printed is handy. And watch the video tutorial. Also have a physically strong assistant to help you hold the garage door whilst you fit the motor in place. Having a friend “on-call” as a back-up plan for some disaster moments (like we had)  is a good idea as well 🙂

The motor is finally fitted – after roughly 3 hours. Do not be carried away by Chamberlain stating it can be completed within 1 to 2 hours. Allow plenty of time – especially if you are first timers like us as there may be scenarios you are not prepared for – like in our case, the space between the roller curtain and the wall was really small and it was NOT easy to fit the motor in.
